Motorcyclist identified in Spanish Springs fatal crash

SPARKS, NV (KOLO)-- Wednesday, Aug. 28 update: The motorcyclist killed in a crash in Spanish Springs Aug. 24 has been identified as Gabriel Vogel, 28, of Reno.

The Nevada Highway Patrol on Wednesday released more details of the crash around 8:20 p.m. at the Pyramid Highway and Campo Rico Lane.

The NHP said it appears a white 1998 Toyota 4Runner was going south on the Pyramid Highway behind a white 2008 Chevrolet 2500 HD pickup truck. Vogel was riding a black Harley Davidson motorcycle north on the Pyramid Highway. The driver Toyota 4Runner entered the northbound lane to pass the Chevrolet hit the motorcycle head on, the NHP said.

The impact pushed the Toyota into the Chevrolet. The Toyota rolled in the dirt shoulder and came to rest on its wheels, the NHP said.

Vogel was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

Original story: One person died Saturday in a crash on the Pyramid Highway involving a motorcycle, the Nevada Highway Patrol reported.

The crash happened at Campo Rico Lane and the Pyramid Highway. A sports utility vehicle and motorcycle collided, the NHP said. The SUV also hit another vehicle.

Two people were taken to the hospital with injuries. The NHP believes a person was driving impaired.

The crash shut down the Pyramid Highway until 2 a.m.
