DAYTON, Nev. (KOLO) - The Nevada Highway Patrol continues an investigation into a fatal crash Friday morning in Dayton.

About 4:20aM February 1, 2019, troopers were called to the crash on Highway 50 near the intersection with Fortune Drive.

The preliminary investigation indicates the driver of an Audi S4 sedan was speeding westbound on 50 east of Fortune Drive. He lost control and drove onto the raised concrete center median, hitting a reflective sign and several marker posts. The car spun across both westbound lanes, then hit a utility pole on the outside shoulder.

NHP says the impact caused the rear portion of the Audi to wrap around the utility pole and the front portion to separate, resting on the outside shoulder. Both occupants of the car were thrown.

The driver, 28-year-old Juan Jesus Orozco of South Lake Tahoe, California, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was flown to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno with life-threatening injuries, and is in critical condition.

Troopers suspect Orozco of being impaired while driving.

The Nevada Highway Patrol is looking for witnesses to this crash. If you saw it, or have any information about it, you're asked to contact Trooper Max Davis of the Nevada Highway Patrol Multi-Disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team at 775-687-9618 or max.davis@dps.state.nv.us.
