One dead, one injured in ATV crash north of Sparks

One man died and another was injured and taken by Care Flight helicopter to Renown Regional Medical Center following an all-terrain vehicle accident Friday afternoon north of Sparks.

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office was called to the accident scene at 3:20 p.m. Friday about 1 to 2 miles from the Moon Rocks, which are about 7 miles off the Pyramid Highway in Palomino Valley, sheriff's spokesman Bob Harmon said.

Two men were riding the ATV when it crashed, Harmon said. One died and the other was taken by the sheriff's RAVEN helicopter to the Moon Rocks where Care Flight picked him up and took him to the hosptial, Harmon said.

Details about the victims were not immediately available.

The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District and 20 volunteers from the sheriff's HASTY rescue team and Search and Rescue team and others also responded, Harmon said.
