The Washoe County Sheriff's Office Major Accident Investigation Team has determined neither driver was at fault in a crash that killed a motorcyclist in Spanish Springs.

The crash between the bike and a Washoe County School District bus took place about 8:30AM August 27, 2018 near La Posada and Rockwell, just east of the intersection of Pyramid and La Posada.

The motorcyclist who was killed was 68-year-old Robert Martin of Sparks. He was a Vietnam veteran and flew on a recent

to see memorials in Washington, DC.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the investigation determined Martin was traveling westbound on La Posada just west of the Rockwell Boulevard roundabout. He hit the bus that was making a left turn from the Save Mart parking lot to the eastbound lane of La Posada. Martin was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Major Accident Investigation Team did a re-enactment of the accident along with witness interviews and accident scene diagrams, and concluded, based on conditions, neither driver was able to see the other in time to take evasive action. Based on that conclusion, investigators are requesting that no charges be filed.

The Washoe County School District says no children were on the school bus, and the driver was not seriously hurt. The driver was placed on administrative leave, per district protocol. The district hasn't released updated information on his status, saying it is a personnel matter.

A Sheriff's Office investigator says the bus driver had just minutes earlier dropped students off at a nearby school.
