The Nye County Sheriff’s Office released body camera footage Friday of the fatal shooting Thursday night of a man who allegedly fired shots at his neighbors and at deputies in Pahrump.

The footage was largely dark and Sheriff Sharon Wehrly had to explain what it showed at a Friday news conference to discuss the incident.

Deputies were called to a Pahrump neighborhood December 6, 2018 after, deputies say, Jason O’Bannon, 46, began firing a gun from his yard. Wehrly said one clip had the sounds of O’Bannon firing at the deputies. A second clip shows O’Bannon firing at the deputies and a deputy returning fire, wounding him. O’Bannon was taken to Desert View Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Wehrly said O’Bannon had a lever-action .30-30 rifle.

The sheriff recited O’Bannon’s lengthy criminal history in Nevada and California, going back to 1998. It includes a 2000 arrest for resisting a peace officer at Pyramid Lake.

PREVIOUSLY RECORDED: Press Conference Officer Involved Shooting that occurred on 12/06/2018.
