Nye County sheriff reports $20 million pot bust, biggest in county

ROUND MOUNTAIN, Nev. (KOLO)-- The Nye County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday they had a record marijuana seizure Sept. 13 near Round Mountain, which is between Tonopah and Austin in central Nevada.

The sheriff’s office said 9,000 marijuana plants and 500 pounds of finished and packaged marijuana were seized in an illegal grow near Peavine Canyon. It put the value of the marijuana at $20 million.

Three men were arrested on drug charges related to the operation. Jordan Torres, 26, of Dinuba, Calif., and Jose Mendez-Ayala, 30, of California were arrested at the grow site. Eustacio Piedra-Robledo, 38, of Perris, Calif., fled and was arrested near Riverside, Calif., the sheriff's office said.

The sheriff’s office believes people involved in this operation were affiliated a drug organization that traffics in other drugs.

The operation was investigated for several weeks before the arrests were made, the sheriff’s office said. It was assisted by U.S. Forest Service, the Nevada Division of investigation, the Nevada Department and Wildlife and Drug Enforcement Administration.
