From large corporations to small businesses, many companies in Northern Nevada are on a hiring spree and the Grand Sierra Resort ballroom was filled with excitement and optimism Saturday

"We are going to be hiring in mass quantities over the next year," said Maddison Moffitt, Panasonic recruiter.

Panasonic held its hiring event to fill positions at the Gigafactory in the production and maintenance sectors.

"We are getting there slowly, but surely. We have hundreds of positions still to fill," said Moffitt.

As the economy grows, that has been a common trend for companies.

Kylie Rowe is the Vice President of Relocation and Corporate Service for Dickson Realty and she is a trustee on the board of Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada

Rowe says EDAWN projected more than 52,000 new jobs will come into the area between 2015 and 2020. So far, only 20,000 jobs have been filled.

“1/3 of the growth we have had in terms of hiring is from Tesla and Panasonic. That means that 2/3 of what we have seen in this new growth is among other companies,” said Rowe.

One of those companies is Kelly Brothers Painting. The family-owned business has served the Truckee-Tahoe region for the last 16 years. This year, they are opening a shop in Reno and are looking to hire 50 to 70 people.

"We are looking to hire people with experience, but the people that have none to little, we can spent a lot of time on training," said Kevin Kelly, Kelly Brothers Painting co-owner.

Rowe says the three economic sectors that are emerging are manufacturing, logistics and technology.

One way companies like Panasonic are attracting employees is by teaming up with Truckee Meadows Community College to create a Panasonic Preferred program to give students a head start over other applicants.

"There is a lot of public/private partnership happening, which is really what creates a strong economy," said Rowe.

Whether big or small, everyone is trying to do their part in keeping the economy growing.

This past week, Eldorado Resorts and the Nugget Casino Resort held big job fairs, and May 2, Harrah's/Harveys Lake Tahoe will hold one from 2 to 5PM in the Harveys human resource office. 170 permanent and summer employees are being sought.
