Nonprofit math club holds championship Saturday

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Northern Nevada Math Club is holding the 4th Annual State of Nevada Elementary Math Championship April 27, 2019. Truckee Meadows Community College will host this year’s competition. The first round will begin at 11am.

All students in grades 1-6 who reside in the state of Nevada are eligible to participate. School participation is encouraged but not required for students to participate. Entry fee is $15.00.

This contest has been written in the state of Nevada, by Nevada writers, and is exclusively available to Nevada students.

Trophies will be awarded to top placers of each grade. Awards will be presented at the NNVMath End-of-Year Awards Dinner Saturday, May 4, 2019, at the Academy of Arts, Careers, and Technology (AACT).

NNVMath has been holding a yearly series of local math contests for students in grades 12 and below for 4 years. As part of its programming, NNVMath is holding its fourth year of summer math camps in June and July for students who will be entering grades 1-8 in the Fall of 2019. Camps are designed so students may attend a single week of camp or multiple weeks. Camps focus on developing a deeper understanding of foundational math skills, logic, problems solving, and team work. Camps will include topics such as number theory, geometry, combinatorics, and more; level and depth will provided will be based on the skill and knowledge level of each camper.

The ARML Local contest will be given April 27 for students in grades 7-12.
