RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Community Health Alliance (CHA) launched its third annual Socktober sock drive for patients at the Record Street Health Center for the homeless. The drive lasts the entire month of October.
Socks are important to help keep feet warm, but are also crucial for the homeless in our area struggling with foot wounds and diabetes. Many of us take for granted the ability to open our sock drawer when we’re getting ready for the day, but for many in our community this is not possible. By providing new pairs of socks, we hope to be able to help more of our neighbors be ready for the elements of winter.
Drop off locations include:
-Premier Physical Therapy- 615 Sierra Rose Dr. $2A, Reno
-Premier Physical Therapy- 2175 Green Vista Dr. #210, Sparks
-Famous Footwear- 6865 Sierra Center Pkwy., Reno
-Famous Footwear- 1310 Scheels Dr. Suite C120, Sparks
Altrusa International of Reno/Sparks is also forming a new local club. The group focuses on building a better community by volunteering and fundraising for local non-profits. It has people that are passionate about many different causes, and puts together opportunities to help those causes.
On Thursday, October 10, 2019, the organization hosted a Socktober Mixer at Mellow Fello at 300 2nd St. in Reno for the community to meet members of numerous nonprofits. Residents were able to donate a pair of new socks, which will be given to Lexie's Gift and Project 150.
CHA is a nonprofit federally qualified health center since July 2012 through the merger of health Access Washoe County (HAWC) and Saint Mary's Mission Outreach programs.
