RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Reno Fire Department is investigating after a small condo fire forced evacuations at a complex on Plumas Street.

It happened just before 7 a.m. Monday, January 21, 2019 at the Salem Plaza Condominiums. Reno Fire says no was home at the time of the fire and crews had to break the front door down. Once inside, they found heavy smoke originating from a mop in the kitchen.

Officials evacuated the first floor of the complex as a precaution. Battalion Chief Mike Pilcher says a fire detector inside the condo helped crews extinguish the small fire quickly. There was minimal damage and the apartment is still livable, according to Pilcher.
