New growth in Reno helps boost city's economy

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) -- A new attraction is coming to the Biggest Little City in the World, showing signs of new growth for Reno. The city's first Topgolf Swing Suite is set to open by the end of March 2019 on the Mezzanine level of the Silver Legacy in THE ROW.

Topgolf is an advanced golf and interactive multi-sport gaming facility that will offer a unique environment for social gatherings and practice sessions. It will feature four golf simulator bays and a variety of virtual games, including zombie dodgeball, hockey shots, baseball pitching, carnival classic and more. The nearly 5,700-square-foot space will be family-friendly, and offer food and drinks.

"It's an incredible place for a golfer, but more importantly if you're not a golfer just come in and enjoy because there's going to be stuff to do for everybody," says Chase Stigall, vice president of Player Development. "It definitely puts THE ROW on the map as a great destination to come down and spend a couple of hours."

THE ROW is undergoing a $100 million renovation project, designed to appeal to locals and visitors. The project includes new businesses such as Ruth's Chris Steakhouse and Topgolf Swing Suite, as well as The Spa and renovations to 1,572 hotel rooms at Circus Circus.

"With Ruth's Chris opening, the spa opening, and top golf swing suite, it's creating not only opportunities for locals but also our team members to move into management and supervisor positions," Bill Gustafson, vice president and general manager of THE ROW, says. "It's all about bringing tourism into town, but it's part of the economic growth for Reno that's happened over the last few years."

Reno has recently experienced a strong economic upturn, a boost in tourism and an emerging food and art scene. The addition of THE ROW's newest attractions is bringing unique experiences for guests, as well as hundreds of new jobs.

"I actually worked for the Eldorado on and off for the last 20 years. I started here at Roxy's at the Eldorado when I was 21 years old doing cocktails, I absolutely loved it then and I love it now," Heidi Novikoff, spa concierge, says. "When the spa opened, I fell in love the instant I saw and smelled it. This is really, really home for me."

Eldorado Resorts and THE ROW say they are committed to bringing the most cutting-edge offerings to its guests, and are happy to help boost the city's economy.

"Seeing how many people we are hiring on a weekly basis, we know that we are being one of the main providers of the employment pool here in Reno, so it makes it exciting for us," George Powell-Lopez, Director of Spa and Wellness, says.

The addition of Topgolf puts Reno on par with other state-of-the-art venues such as Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara and State Farm Arena in Atlanta, which have opened the same simulator lounges within their facilities.
