RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - A "Prep Rally" was held October 11, 2018 by Nevada Health Link. The purpose of the invite-only event was to prepare health insurance agents/brokers, navigators, insurance carriers and community partners for the upcoming Open Enrollment season, which is set to begin November 1. The rally was held at The Grove in south Reno.
In 2017, Nevada Health Link enrolled a record 91,003 Nevadans.
With about 9% of Nevadans uninsured, Nevada Health Link is working to reach all eligible residents throughout the state, especially underserved populations, ensuring they know about the various forms of assistance available to help them make informed health insurance purchases.
Heather Korbulic, executive director for Silver State Health Insurance Exchange, provided a presentation on the Exchange and the state of health insurance in Nevada. She shared information on activities and marketing/outreach strategies for Plan Year 2019 and discuss key differences between coverage purchased through Nevada Health Link and other plans being marketed, with focus on working together to educate consumers and families on the importance of securing health insurance.
Joining Korbulic was Roy Tuscany, a Reno resident and founder of High Fives Foundation, a KOLOCares Pillar Partner organization that supports outdoor action sports athletes that have experienced life-altering injuries. In 2006, Tuscany suffered a devastating spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed from the waist down. He says his mother pushed him into securing health insurance just a few months before his accident, a significant event that has made all the difference in his life and now, those he seeks to inspire.
