It's Public Safety Telecommunications Week, a chance to recognize 911 dispatchers who dedicate their lives to serving others in times of need.
Karl Holden has been a part of people's worst ever day for the past 17 years. "Its been a journey, a fun journey. it's a very interesting job, very unique, nothing is the same every day," he says.
To celebrate our often unseen heroes, Reno Elks Lodge provided lunch.
"They need to be recognized for all the work they do, so we decided that we would recognize them by providing them with food." said Jim Stewart from Reno Elks Lodge.
Tom Green, Chief Deputy at the Washoe County Office, says dispatchers' help is essential when officers are in the field
"Too often we see police officers and deputies but we don't see the back end of what allows us to do our jobs and that is the dispatch center."
The celebrations will continue throughout the week at the Reno Public Safety Dispatch Center.
