CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) - Nevada's Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) reports that initial claims for unemployment insurance benefits dropped 1.9% in August 2019 when compared to July 2019.
That is a decrease of 190 claims.
Compared to August 2018, filings were up 1.1%, or 100 more claims.
The report also shows Nevada gained 42,100 new jobs since August of last year.
The Reno metropolitan area added jobs at the rate of 6.1%. That led the state with Carson City at 3.7% job growth and Las Vegas at 1.8% growth.
Nationwide, Nevada led the state's in job growth for the 11th straight month.
