WINNEMUCCA, NV (KOLO) - Two suspects in a bar burglary were arrested Sunday after a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper spotted them and went after them.
NHP says July 7, 2019, the trooper was on patrol in Winnemucca when he got a report of two suspicious people walking around an apartment complex. The descriptions of the two matched those of two people involved in a burglary at the Players Bar in Winnemucca July 6.
NHP says when the trooper arrived in the area of US 95 and the apartment complex, he saw the two people and began to approach them, and they ran off. The trooper followed them in his patrol car through a residential area and a business area while using his speaker to order them to stop. Winnemucca Police and the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office arrived to help, and the suspects surrendered.
Shannon McCoy of Elko and Jessica Woods of Carlin were arrested on charges related to the burglary.
Winnemucca Police had been called to the Players Bar about 5 a.m. Saturday to a call about a burglary in progress. Police spotted the suspect vehicle and tried to pull the driver over, when the driver sped off and led to a 20-mile chase.
The chase ended on the Heckman Ranch near I-80 mile marker 168 when the suspect driver crashed into a slough off the Humboldt River. The suspects crossed the river and got away until the next morning, when the NHP trooper spotted them.
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office and Humboldt General Hospital Air One Helicopter were part of the initial search for the suspects.
