NDOT invests $5 million for pedestrian safety improvements

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) NDOT is investing $5 million in pedestrian safety upgrades. The construction will last through summer of 2019.

Drivers will see periodic closures on Second Street between Keystone and Kuenzli. NDOT says these improvements are much-needed, as pedestrian fatalities are up 66% in Washoe Counry compared to this time last year.

In 2018 there were 13 pedestrian deaths and as of March 2019, Washoe County already has five pedestrian fatalities.

Beginning March 18 more periodic closures will take place on Kietzke Lane between Mill and Galletti Way. NDOT is adding bike lanes and upgrading sidewalks.
