Suspect arrested in west Sparks crash; two in critical condition

SPARKS, Nev. (KOLO)-- Thursday afternoon update: The Sparks Police Department on Thursday identified the driver who allegedly caused a five-vehicle accident Christmas Day and then ran from the scene as Juan Jose Fuentes, 42.

Police booked Fuentes on three felony counts of fleeing the scene of an accident and charges of drunk driving causing substantial bodily harm, driving on a revoked license, failing to decrease speed and having an open container of alcohol in the vehicle.

Fuentes was driving a Dodge truck that rear-ended a GMC at high speed on westbound Oddie Boulevard at El Rancho Drive on Dec. 25, 2019, at about 5:06 p.m. Those vehicles then crashed into three other vehicles.

Fuentes ran away and police found him a short time later with the help of the public, police said in a statement on Thursday.

Three people in the GMC were injured. Two were listed in critical condition on Thursday, police said.

Original story: The Sparks Police Department responded to a five-vehicle injury crash Wednesday at Oddie Boulevard and El Rancho Drive in west Sparks.

It happened around 5PM, December 25, 2019.

Police said the driver who caused the crash ran from the scene and police were looking for him in the west Sparks area.

A mother and daughter were taken to a hospital from the scene and other medical personnel were called in to look at others involved.

The area was closed for several hours while police investigated and cleaned up the scene.
