HAWTHORNE, NV (KOLO) - The Mineral County District Attorney's Office confirms sheriff's deputies helped search a home in Walker Lake that may have been used by the shooter in the days prior to the Gilroy Garlic Festival shooting. The office released the following statement Monday, July 29, 2019:

"In the early morning hours of July 29, 2019, Mineral County Sheriff’s Deputies assisted agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation in a search of a residence located in Walker Lake, Nevada. This residence is believed to have been used by the Gilroy, California, shooter during the days prior to the July 28th incident. Mineral County Sheriff Randy Adams stated that “Mineral County Deputies supported FBI agents by obtaining a search warrant for a unit in a triplex located in at Walker Lake. As this is an ongoing investigation, we are not able to comment further at this time.”

Three people were killed in Sunday's shooting. Investigators say 19-year-old Santino William Legan cut through a fence and appeared to randomly target people with an "assault-type rifle".

According to ABC News sources, Legan purchased the gun from Big Mikes Gun and Ammo in Fallon on July 9. A post on Big Mikes Gun and Ammo Facebook page suggests the gun was purchased there.

Our reporter spoke with the owner of the gun shop in Fallon, Nevada who says he is heartbroken over this.

Governor Steve Sisolak released the following statement on the shooting:

"Our hearts are in mourning after hearing about the tragic loss of life, including a 6-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl, and numerous injuries to attendees of the Garlic Festival in Gilroy, CA. Nevadans know first-hand the deep pain and suffering the Gilroy community is experiencing right now, and we want them to know we offer our deepest and most heartfelt condolences. I also want to thank the first responders who quickly secured the scene and undoubtedly prevented even greater harm. Our office learned earlier today that the weapon used in the attack was purchased in Nevada. The Nevada Department of Public Safety has reached out to the Gilroy Police Department and federal law enforcement and will provide any assistance as needed.”
