MEYERS, Calif. (KOLO)-- The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office said Saturday it recovered the body of a Meyers man who fell through the ice at Lake Baron in Meyers on Thanksgiving Day.

David Schmidt, 39, was walking three dogs when he fell through the ice, the sheriff’s office said. The three dogs were found and taken to a veterinarian for treatment.

The incident was reported around noon on Thanksgiving Day. Searchers looked for him until Thursday evening and searchers found cold weather clothing in that area. The search resumed on Friday. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office used a remote operated vehicle (ROV) to find Schmdit’s body and recover it, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office said.

“There were no signs of foul play and all signs indicate that this was a tragic accident,” the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office said.

Meyers is about 7 miles south of South Lake Tahoe along U.S. 50.
