RENO, Nev. (KOLO) It was a surprise former Marine Kurt Prager could never have imagined for himself. He and his family have been homeless and had their original car stolen.
A carpenter, his former employer told him to come back when he had transportation. The car means everything.
“Beautiful. Awesome. Everything you could ask for Christmas,” says Prager.
The car is courtesy of CoAuto. The auto repair shop received a donated car this year. Mechanics in their free time tuned it up and fix problems. A new set of snow tires, and the Intrepid was ready to go.
All were on hand to thank Prager for his service and see how their work can impact someone in need. Prager was selected by the Veterans Resource Center as a worthy recipient.
“They now have transportation. They have a job opportunity and their family can become whole again,” says Shane Whitecloud with the Veterans Resource Center.
Prager's mother-in-law Karla Pambogo arrived to the festivities late. She was anticipating giving her son, daughter and the grandkids a ride home.
She was overcome with emotions by just how important this Christmas gift is to a family that has faced its share of setbacks.
“Taxi, all over the place for months and this is awesome for them,” says Pambogo.
Just one more hurdle needs to be jumped before Kurt and his family can take the car home.
He needs insurance and just like in past years, if you are willing to help out, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call CoAuto at 775-360-5361 ask for Rochelle.
