Man booked for allegedly lighting Cold Springs fire

RENO, NV (KOLO)-- A Reno man was booked on suspicion of third degree arson after he allegedly lit a bush on fire in the Cold Springs area Thursday afternoon.

Alan James Kiefer, 34, also allegedly threw a lit cigarette into a parked vehicle. He faces a charge of temperaing with a motor vehicle for that and also faces a charge of resisting a peace officer.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office used a Taser on Kiefer after he ran away after not obeying commands and resisted deputies, Lt. Armando Avina said.

People saw Kiefer setting the fire and throwing rocks and other objects at vehicles in the 21000 block of Mount Evans Drive in Cold Springs around 12:50 p.m., Avina said. Witnesses then directed deputies to his location and they found him about 1:30 p.m.

Kifer was taken to a hospital for medical evaluation after being Tased and then was booked into the jail. The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District put out the fire.
