SUN VALLEY, Nev. (KOLO) - A Sun Valley man faces multiple charges after a Washoe County Sheriff’s deputy saw him illegally dumping trash on Red Hill Sunday.
About 11:30 a.m. March 17, 2019, the deputy was on a call in the area of Sidehill Drive and Fourth Avenue in Sun Valley when he spotted two people throwing trash from a vehicle on the hillside above Chocolate Drive.
The deputy notified dispatch, leading more deputies to the scene to find a vehicle occupied by a man, behind the wheel, and a girl.
Investigators say the driver, 30-year-old Justin Melena, was initially uncooperative and provided two false names. They finally identified him as an ex-felon who had failed to update his current address with the courts.
Deputies arrested Melena on multiple charges, including Unlawful Disposal of Garbage, Making False Statements to Obstruct a Public Officer, Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor and Convicted Person Failing to Register His Address. He is also charged with buying, possessing or receiving stolen property.
Deputies found the girl was listed as a runaway from outside the area. She was arrested on a charge of Obstructing and Resisting. Her name has not been released because she is a minor.
