RENO, Nev. (KOLO) -- The Lyon County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) is warning the public about an attempted phone scam in Lyon County. The agency said the scams were attempted Tuesday, January 15, 2019.
LCSO said the suspect called victims and stated he was a deputy. The suspect went on to say LCSO had warrants out for their arrest, and requested the victims give money to remove the warrants.
The sheriff's office says warrants are handled through their respective courts of jurisdiction, and fines associated with warrants are never handled personally by a deputy, and never involve paying a deputy.
If you have fallen victim to this scam, call LCSO at (775) 577-5023. Anyone who receives a similar phone call is asked not to follow the caller's instructions, but to hang up and report the incident immediately.
