Local woman celebrates 100th birthday

SPARKS, Nev. (KOLO) - Loved ones, friends, and the community gathered in Sparks to celebrate Wilene Duncan's 100th birthday.

Duncan was born on September 14, 1919.

Her dad is from Missouri and her mother is from Iowa.

Duncan describes herself as a tom boy, always helping her dad plow and work in the field.

She grew up during the Great Depression and when the stock market crashed in 1930.

Duncan is a mother to three children; Jimmy Dean, Janis and Bill.

Family members describe Duncan to be kind and giving. The white house also congratulated Duncan on being a centenarian.

Duncan said her secret to living a long fulfilling life is not smoking.
