Local students explore careers in the construction industry

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - More than a thousand local students from Washoe County and other counties are attending Construction Career Day, an event hosted by the Nevada Builders Alliance.

Nevada Builders Alliance CEO Aaron West says they created this event 3 years ago after seeing a shortage in the construction workforce. They wanted to change that and created this event for students to explore the different jobs in the construction industry.

"We really created this as an opportunity to open the eyes of middle school students to do some career exploration, introduce them to careers because it is not just swinging a hammer or working a shovel," said West.

The Nevada Business Alliance does have a grant that will enable 60 young adults, ages 18-24 to receive skills and train for construction jobs. For more information click here
