Authorities in Las Vegas are identifying the woman whose body was found in a 55-gallon barrel in a garage, and the man accused of killing her.

The Clark County coroner reported Wednesday that 39-year-old Jennifer Ann Ratay was shot multiple times and her death was a homicide.

Police say 38-year-old Chuck Chaiyakul was arrested Wednesday on murder and weapon charges.

Officials didn't immediately describe what led to the slaying. Police say Ratay had been reported missing since Aug. 29.

Records show that Chaiyakul served prison time in Nevada for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

He's being held at the Clark County jail in Las Vegas pending a court appearance Friday at which he is expected to have an attorney appointed to his defense.

Las Vegas police say a barrel recovered from the garage of a home is believed to contain the body of a woman who was reported missing.

Police say the 55-gallon (208-liter) barrel was examined with an X-ray but left unopened before being taken Tuesday night to the Clark County Coroner's Office for further examination.

According to police, they got a call Tuesday morning about a woman being missing and then located a man who was a friend of the woman and believed to be the last person known to have been with her.

Police said the man was arrested in the woman's disappearance.

No identities were released.
