LTCC offering three years of free tuition
Lake Tahoe Community College is offering up to three years of free tuition as part of the Lake Tahoe College Promise.
"An ability to earn your degree tuition free, we believe is an absolute game-changer," said Superintendent and School President Jeff DeFranco.
The College Promise is available to any first-time, full-time students who live in California, and Nevadans who live in the Tahoe Basin.
"More and more a college degree is the price of admission," added DeFranco. "No longer is a high school degree, going right into the workforce, going to give you the type of job that you want."
Whether you're 18 or 81, you can utilize this program that also includes a $100 bookstore credit, access to their textbook lending library, and free bus passes on the Tahoe Transportation District.
"What other students go through, I know this program helps so much," said LTCC grad student Timothy Acosta. "There's students on campus who literally work two jobs; live out of their car. There is so much financial hardship everywhere."
With the average cost of college now more than $32,000 per year, this program gives students a head start on curriculum without the debt that usually accompanies it. And the college offers a variety of degrees, from associates to bachelor's; even a master's or doctorate.
"At the end of the day their degree still says University of Nevada-Reno, or Sierra Nevada College, or University of California-Berkeley even if they started at Lake Tahoe Community College," added DeFranco.
