MINDEN, Nev. (KOLO) On six acres in Douglas County, you'll find Kids and Horses. The non-profit is a therapeutic riding facility in Minden that's been around 20 years. The organization works with children and adults with a wide variety of disabilities, including Down Syndrome, stroke, Autism and many others.
From instructors, handlers and others involved, it's a collaborative effort to help the participants grow in unlimited ways. As Catherine O'Brien, Program Director tells us, “So everybody is kind of interacting in that environment to help that child in a variety of ways so they make friends, they gain confidence, they work on their conversational skills.”
There is a need for volunteers and that's where you come in. Even if you don't have a lot of experience with horses or maybe you are a part of a civic group that's in need of some service hours, if you’d like to learn more, click here.
