'Just Between Friends' helping local foster children

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The ‘Just Between Friends’ consignment event will take place this weekend at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. Families sell gently used children and maternity items at a discounted rate for other families.

This year the event is helping local foster children with the Mountain Circle Family Service (MCFS) agency. Organizer Vicki Dame said its setting up a toy drive for the kids. “It’s a smaller adoption agency and they are in desperate need of toys,” Dame said.

She continued, “They struggle to find items for their kids every year, they are struggling to find somebody that is consistent with helping them out and really wanted to do that.”

MCFS said all donations will help around 10 foster kids. Case Manager Lindsy Sullivan said the agency recruits people who want to be foster parents for treatment level kids.

Sullivan said the foster kids don’t experience holidays as much. “A lot of them have never had a Christmas tree, never had a present.”

She added, “They do not know what the holidays are about and they are in that family setting. We want to give them that full holiday experience.”

Just Between Friends will also take monetary donations. It will purchase toys at the event and donate them to the agency.
