An investigation is underway following a barge fire that broke out after an annual fireworks show on Lake Tahoe.

According to the Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District, the fire broke out just before 12:30 a.m. Thursday, July 5, 2018. It happened on one of the three barges used to launch fireworks during the South Lake Tahoe Lights on the Lake fire display.

The fireworks crew aboard the barge attempted to put out the fire with fire extinguishers, but was unsuccessful. The TDFPD, which monitors the fireworks show, responded with Marine 24, the district’s new fire boat, and was able to knock down the flames in six minutes.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
