SPARKS, NV (KOLO) The Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office has released the name of a man killed in an officer-involved shooting Sunday evening.

47-year-old Jose Dominguez of Sparks was killed in the shooting about 7:00 p.m. April 28, 2019 at the corner of 4th Street and Abbay Way.

Police say they responded to a report of a suicidal man around 5:30, but he said he was not suicidal and police say he did not meet criteria to be held. Police then returned at 7:00 after receiving a call of a domestic battery at the same home.

This time, according to the Washoe County Sheriff's Office, which is the lead agency on this investigation, Dominguez refused to cooperate with officers and barricaded himself in his home.

Investigators say officers had been trying to negotiate with Dominguez for about an hour when he walked out of the house carrying a rifle. The situation then escalated, resulting in police shooting and killing Dominguez.

Paramedics tried to help Dominguez, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was hurt.

Washoe County is handling the investigation because of regional officer-involved shooting protocol, working with investigators from the Reno Police Department and the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office. Once completed, the investigation will be forwarded to the District Attorney for his review.

The involved officers have been placed on administrative leave.
