Increased Sparks sewer, storm drain user rates now in effect

The new year is bringing some changes for customers in Sparks. A

motion to increase sewer and storm drain user rates

took effect January 1, 2019. The ordinance was unanimously approved by the Sparks City Council

A sewer connection fee increase of 30% and a storm drain connection fee increase of 2.96% was approved at its December 10 meeting.

The rates will increase 5% annually July 1, 2019 through July 1, 2022. City Council also approved annually adjusting sewer and storm drain connection fees per the Engineering News Record Construction Cost Index beginning on January 1, 2020.

The new rates will affect residential and commercial customers.

At that same meeting, the City Council also approved a

new housing project

, a 69-unit townhome subdivision on a 7.72-acre site. The Canyons on Los Altos will be within the Vistas Planned Development at 2255 Los Altos Parkway.
