I-80 traffic moving slowly in Sierra

RENO, Nev. (KOLO)-- The California Department of Transportation said Sunday afternoon that Interstate 80 is open, but traffic is moving slowly.

Eastbound Interstate 80 traffic held at Dutch Flat as shown on a Caltrans traffic camera.

Chains are required for passenger vehicles on most Sierra roads.

“Another strong weather pattern is arriving soon, bringing heavy snow and high winds to the Summit,” Caltrans said on Twitter. “Visibility will be greatly reduced.”

U.S. 50 traffic in El Dorado County was held in El Dorado County for several hours on Saturday afternoon for avalanche control, but was released again about 3:45 p.m.

The Nevada Department of Transportation says Mount Rose Highway was reopened Saturday morning after much of it had been closed for more than a day because of heavy snow and poor visibility. Chains or snow tires are still required as of Saturday morning.
