CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) -- A hiker found human remains Tuesday January 29, 2019 about noon in the hills north of Carson City, according to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.
Human remains discovered north of Carson City
The remains were found in the area of Goni Hills, about 400 yards from the nearest dirt trail road.
The location of the discovery is approximately 1,400 yards south of the Storey County/Carson City line, and over 4,500 yards from the Lyon County line, Furlong says.
Detectives responded to the area and retrieved a human skull, jaw, and what appeared to be a single vertebra within a circle area of approximately 40 feet.
The bones were fully decomposed of flesh, suggesting the remains had been in the exposed environment for an extended period of time.
Search and Rescue crews are preparing for a more extensive search of the area Wednesday.
All the remains will be transported to the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office for examination and an attempt to identify the person.
