VIRGINIA CITY, NV (KOLO) - The 33rd annual Hot August Nights kicks off in Virginia City this weekend. Officials with Hot August Nights said it’s a sold out event. The event’s Executive Director Michael Whan said it’s expecting 400 cars in Virginia City, that’s nearly double from its first kick-off event.

He said, “Virginia City is a great place to kick-off. The merchant’s love us here. The agencies, the tourism agencies. The commissioners they all love us.”

Whan continued, “It is a great place for everyone to hangout get to know each other before they spread their roots and go down to Reno.”

Last year there were 10,000 people and officials are expecting the same amount of attendees if not more. “We are expecting a huge crowd this year,” said Whan. He continued, “This year it’s really perfect weather for Hot August Nights.”

Virginia City will host several events during the weekend. Attendees can play a hand on the Poker Walk, participate in a raffle, and enjoy live entertainment as classic cars line C Street.

Saturday is the Celebrity Choice Show-n-Shine which honors the most impressive models.

The event is Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
