RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Hot August Nights annual coat drive provides families in need with jackets, and Chairman Kandee Chainey said one coat goes a long way.
"People that literally can't afford to buy a coat for their kids so we can supply them with that. It keeps them warm, it keeps them from getting sick," Chainey said.
Saturday, coats were collected at Reno and Sparks A&W locations. Every person who donated was given a coupon for a free root beer float at A&W.
The largest donation Saturday came from First Independent Bank, which donated 230 coats.
"We have these huge boxes in our branches," Mike Hix, Senior Vice President at First Independent Bank said. "Customers would bring them in, our colleagues would go gather them. It's just a nice thing for the community."
The coats will be donated to the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows to keep Northern Nevada in-need families warm.
