A hiker drowned in a creek in Plumas County’s Feather River Canyon between Graeagle and Quincy on Wednesday, the California Department of Forestry and Fire reported.

The call came in about 3:41 p.m. of a person pulled under water at Rock Creek Bridge along California 70, CalFire reported.

Heather M. Noone, 48, of Palo Alto, California was hiking with her family when she fell and was pulled into the water. Her husband tried to pull her out but the current was too strong, the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Crews began searching for the body. She was found in Rock Creek trapped under two boulders about an hour later.

Crews were able to get the body out about 6:40 p.m.

“Please be safe in our waterways, snow melt is high and what may look like a cool place to swim could hold hidden dangers,” CalFire said.
