Greater Nevada Field to host first soccer match

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) In years past, when the Reno Aces were on the road, Greater Nevada Field found itself unoccupied.

Now, that is no longer the case, as soccer games are becoming a part of the downtown stadium.

Reno 1868 FC won’t begin play until 2017, but there are two matches scheduled for this season.

The first is on May 25, 2016. It will feature the Liverpool FC u21s taking on the Sacramento Republic FC. The match will be a “friendly,” meaning it is a preseason game, but with the tradition of Liverpool’s franchise, team officials still expect a great atmosphere.

The second match will be June 11, and it will be a regular season game between Sacramento and Salt Lake City – two teams Reno 1868 FC will be playing once they begin play next year.
