Governor Sisolak orders flags to be flown at half-staff following shootings

CARSON CITY, NV (KOLO) - Governor Steve Sisolak has ordered all U.S. and Nevada flags to be flown at half-staff through Friday following the mass shootings in Gilroy, California, El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio.

He signed the Executive Order Monday, August 5, 2019 as a a way to respect and remember the victims.

In a tweet, the governor said "NV stands with you during these trying times."

The text of Executive Order 2019-14 is below:

EXECUTIVE ORDER 2019-14

ORDERING FLAGS TO HALF-STAFF

HONORING THE VICTIMS OF THE TRAGEDIES IN GILROY, CALIFORNIA; EL PASO, TEXAS; AND DAYTON, OHIO

WHEREAS, Nevadans mourn with the friends and families of those injured and killed in the tragic shootings on July 28, 2019 in Gilroy, California; August 3, 2019 in El Paso, Texas; and on August 4, 2019 in Dayton, Ohio;

WHEREAS, these shootings were acts of profound violence leaving pain and suffering in their wake;

WHEREAS, we, collectively as a State, condemn these violent acts and pray that the friends and families of the victims of these three terrible acts will be comforted by the outpouring of love and charity from their respective communities and from this nation;

NOW, THEREFORE, by the authority vested in me as Governor by the Constitution and laws of the State of Nevada and the United States, and pursuant to the Proclamation issued by President Donald J. Trump on August 4, 2019, it is hereby ordered as follows:

The flags of the United States and the State of Nevada shall be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and all State public buildings and grounds beginning immediately until sunset, Friday, August 9th, 2019, as a mark of respect and remembrance of the victims of the Gilroy, El Paso, and Dayton shootings.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Nevada to be affixed at the State Capitol in Carson City, this 5th day of August, in the year two thousand nineteen.
