Girl Scouts unveil new donate life patch program
The Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada are learning more about the importance of organ donation.
The new donate life patch was unveiled Monday
The age-adjusted program will teach girl scouts about what organs do and the benefits of being a donor.
“We really want to make sure it’s an issue area they are exposed to, so they know what does it mean to be an organ donor,” said Jessica Mahon of GSSN. “How do they help save lives, and how do they become advocates for this really important issue.”
The new program comes through a partnership between the Girl Scouts, Donor Network West, and Prominence Health Plan.
“The curriculum scales all the way from daises to ambassadors,” said Amy Beck of Prominence Health Plan. “It provides age-appropriate material teaching what functions the organs serve and how you can play a role in saving someone’s life If you are an organ donor.”
