Code Red lockdown lifted at Galena High School

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - UPDATE: 8:50AM - The Washoe County School District has lifted the Code Red lockdown at Galena High School.


The Washoe County School District placed Galena High School on a precautionary lockdown Friday morning, but that the campus does appear safe and secure.

The Washoe County Sheriff's Department tells KOLO 8 News Now, the incident was an apparent threat made on a school bus.

As a precaution, the District placed Galena High School on a Code Red.

A KOLO 8 News Now staffer saw one Washoe County motorcycle deputy headed to the scene just after 7:30AM. He witnessed approximately a dozen more Sheriff's and Reno Police vehicles heading south on I-580 a short time later.

By 8:30AM, the Washoe County Sheriff's Office said their deputies were standing down and handing the investigation over to the Washoe School District Police.
