RENO, Nev. (KOLO) -- Children and their parents are invited to a free Family Health Festival taking place this weekend in Sun Valley.
It's a community-wide collaborative effort to bring free and low-cost health services to kids, students, adults and seniors. Some of the services that will be provided include dental screenings, eye screenings, BMI testing, family planning and the Food Bank Mobile Pantry. Making sure students get the shots required for school is also a priority.
"We want to make sure that all the kids have all the vaccinations they need before the school year so we're providing no cost or low-cost vaccines from 4 to 18 years old," says Yashila Sanchez with Community Health Alliance.
Some of the agencies and organizations that will be represented include the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, Washoe County Health District, Truckee Meadows Healthy Communities, Community Health Alliance and United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra. More than 30 vendors are expected.
"The purpose is to bridge local resources and bring them directly to families. We really want them to access the resources and be really aware of what's around," says Ashley Cabrera with the United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra.
The Family Health Festival takes place on Saturday, July 27, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the Sun Valley Neighborhood Center at 115 W. 6th Avenue in Sun Valley. Bus Route 5 to get there.
