First responders working on Thanksgiving

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) The holidays are a time for family and friends to gather, but for many first responders, it's just another day at work. Reno firefighters at Station One say they're happy to serve the community no matter what day it is.

"This is what we signed up for, this is what we do. It doesn't matter the day," Brandon Fernandez, a firefighter with RFD, says.

The ten firefighters at Station One say being with one another is like having a second family.

"If you find the right crew and family to be around it can be a lot of fun right now I'm very grateful the people I work with are great and I'm definitely thankful for that," Captain Anthony Marvel says.

Some of the firefighters family's and loved ones paid a visit to the station.

Fernandez's kids, Donovan and Camrynn, say they're grateful for what their dad does.

"Thank you for being a fighter fighter and we love you and you're the best dad ever," Camrynn says.

Fernandez says his kids come to the station every chance they get.

"I'm really proud of him because he saves a lot of people each day and houses sometimes," Donovan says.

The crew spent several hours preparing their Thanksgiving dinner in between calls and training.

"We're happy to be here it's the best job ever and we're happy to do it," Fernandez says.
