The fire was in a field behind Tripp Drive south of Hug High School and was reported about 6:09 p.m. The Reno Fire Department said it started along the Orr Ditch and spread into a field.
About 20 fire personnel responded and firefighters were able to attack the fire from several sides before it threatened apartments. No homes were lost. NV Energy inspected one power pole. It was knocked down by 6:30 p.m.
The cause of the fire has not been determined, but it may be related to a homeless camp in the area.
Anyone with information about the fire or the homeless camp is asked to contact the Reno Fire Prevention Bureau at 775-334-2300.
