COLFAX, CA (KOLO)-- SATURDAY MORNING UPDATE:Crews are mopping up the Sugar Fire about 12 miles east of Colfax Saturday morning, the U.S. Forest Service reported.
The Tahoe National Forest fire southeast of Sugar Pine Reservoir, which crews started battling Friday about 1 p.m., grew to about 65.5 acres, the Forest Service said.
Crews are being released from the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
ORIGINAL STORY: A fire burning in the Tahoe National Forest about 12 miles east of Colfax, Calif., reached 25 acres to 35 acres Friday evening, the U.S. Forest Service reports.
The Sugar Fire in Placer County has more than 100 fire personnel on it and crews first reached the fire about 1 p.m. Friday. Six engines and two helicopters are assisting.
It is burning near Sugar Pine Road and Big Reservoir Lane. Sugar Pine Road is closed.
The California Department of Forestry and Fire and the Foresthill Fire Protection District are helping.
There is no estimated containment date and the cause of the fire has not been determined.
