Eddy House launches "Devante's Gift"

is pushing forward with its goal of trying to open a 24-hour facility for homeless and at-risk youth in our area. May 31, 2018, the non-profit hosted a Community Birthday Party at its location on East Sixth Street in Reno.

It's a tribute to one of their youth, Devante, who passed away last year from heart failure. He was 23 years old. On this day, Eddy House launched an initiative called Devante's Gift. The initiative aims to raise one million dollars, which would go toward funding the overnight facility for homeless youth.

"So the initiative is to get 1,000 community members, whether that's individuals, businesses, families, and they would pledge $1,000 over a course of a year and we figure if we can get 1,000 families, that would definitely get us into an overnight facility and get our kids off the street," says Michele Gehr, Executive Director of Eddy House.

Gehr is hoping to get the facility up and running by the end of the year.
