Duck injured by blowgun dart at Chrissie Caughlin Park

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Nevada Department of Wildlife is searching for the person responsible for injuring a wild duck.

A duck spotted at Chrissie Caughlin Park in Reno that has been injured by what appears to be a blow gun dart.

A KOLO viewer captured photos and videos of the duck, which has been seen hanging around at Chrissie Caughlin Park in Reno.

NDOW's Chris Healy says if the duck can be safely captured, it will be taken to a rehab center. However, Healy warns that it will probably be impossible to capture the duck without causing more injuring or stress, which would be fatal.

If a game warden were to try to approach the duck with a net, it would likely fly off. If it could be netted, it would likely thrash about, causing more physical damage.

Healy says whoever is responsible could face a number of charges, not the least of which is hunting out of season. However, unless they receive a tip from the public, it is unlikely they will be able to find the person responsible.

Healy says parents should educate their children if they give them a blowgun or any other type of weapon like it.
