Douglas County recruiting census volunteers

DOUGLAS COUNTY, NV (KOLO) - The 2020 Census is just around the corner and Douglas County needs volunteers. The county is asking for volunteers to participate in the Complete County Committee (CCC).

The CCC volunteers are responsible for educating and encouraging residents to respond to the census. The census happens every 10 years. The federal government conducts a population count of everyone in the United States.

The data that is given to the government provides financial distribution of more than $675 billion in federal funds annually. The money goes towards communities that support vital programs such as healthcare, education, and employment.

The count also determines state representation in Congress. Officials said when communities are informed, they are more likely to respond to the census.

Douglas County Public Information Officer Melissa Blosser said, “It’s really important that we get that participation with our community, and involving those volunteers and have those local people.”

She continued, “We are really looking to reach out to people that might be discouraged to take the Census, or may not have access to taking the Census, and talk about why it’s important to take the Census.”

“The people who live work and play here, our businesses, our hospitals, our fire departments, it’s extremely important. It will definitely impact Douglas County,” said Blosser.

The county needs volunteers to sign up by August 23. If you’re interested in serving on the CCC you can contact the Douglas County manager’s office.
