Deported man guilty of Reno carjacking; more charges pending

RENO, NV (KOLO)-- A U.S. District Court jury in Reno found a man guilty of carjacking on Thursday.

Eric Romero-Lobato, 39, faces a maximum sentence of life in prison when he is sentenced Nov. 19 by Judge Larry Hicks. Romero-Lobato also has charges pending he robbed a Sparks bar and grill.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said the evidence showed Romero-Lobato used a 9mm pistol and stole a car at gunpoint in May 2018. The Reno Police Department found the stolen vehicle within hours and Romero-Lobato led them on a high-speed chase until he wrecked the car.

He has prior convictions for illegally reentering the country after being deported and for eluding a police officer, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
