RENO, NV (KOLO) - A Washoe County jury returned a guilty verdict of vehicular manslaughter (a misdemeanor) for the driver involved in a crash that killed a man in 2017.

On Tuesday, August 6, 2019, a jury handed down the verdict against 21-year-old Parker Billings. He was found not guilty of the more serious charge of reckless driving resulting in death (a felony).
The crash happened early the afternoon of May 24 at the intersection of Double R Boulevard and Sandhill Road in south Reno.
Police told KOLO 8 News Now it appeared the driver of a pickup was headed east on Sandhill Road, and collided with a car headed north on Double R. The driver of the truck, 76-year-old Joseph Hedgecock, died at the scene.
Billings, who was 20 years old at the time, was identified as the driver of the car. He was treated on scene. After a police investigation, a warrant was issued for his arrest, and he surrendered at the Washoe County jail March 1, 2018.
Billings is expected to be sentenced September 4, 2019.
